In North Carolina you never have to re-register to vote unless one of the following situations apply to you:
- You have not voted or had any other contact in person or by mail with your county Board of Elections office in 16 years, counted by Federal Election cycles
- You have previously cancelled your registration by filling out and submitting a cancellation form
- You have been convicted of a Felony (in this case, you must complete your sentence and all associated probation prior to re-registering)
Negative, viral claims about Dominion Voting systems have been found to be without merit. However, the truth or falsehood of these claims does not matter in North Carolina, as North Carolina has never certified or used Dominion voting machines, and Dominion machines will not be used in the upcoming November 2024 Presidential Election either.

Ballot duplication is a process, done by bipartisan procedure and only under specific circumstances, that allows elections administrators to copy a person’s votes over to a new ballot in the case that an Absentee by Mail or Provisional ballot has been damaged and cannot be read by a machine. In North Carolina, poll workers writing on a ballot or stamping it with a stamp is a normal part of procedure. Furthermore, any ballot that has been marked in such a way that it will not count will be rejected from a tabulation machine, so any effort to invalidate ballots without a voters’ notice this way would be pointless.
North Carolina voting machines are not connected to the internet, nor can they be. All North Carolina voting machines currently in use lack the hardware and firmware necessary to connect to a network, wired or otherwise.
No, DMV form registration-related sections and questions are always optional. Leaving them blank or ignoring them will never affect your registration in any way, and you will never be required to register to vote if you are not in order to complete any DMV form.
