To improve accessibility both in our digital and physical spaces and better address the needs of our community, Alamance County Public Libraries is taking steps to address accessibility concerns.

Videophone – Available at the May Memorial, Mebane, and Graham Libraries

Sorenson Videophone Available

A Sorenson videophone is available for use during library hours of operation.

The Videophone is a Video Relay system that connects persons who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and patrons who use American Sign Language with voice telephone users via video equipment. Sorenson facilitates a signed conversation through an interpreter who relays the conversation between both parties.

Our services desks all have dry erase boards available to assist in communication efforts.

Blind or Low-vision Patrons Computer Options

Large Print Keyboards Available

The May Memorial Library has public computer use stations available for those who are blind or have low-vision. Windows Narrator, a free Windows 10 service, can be activated on specific computers at each library location, please let staff know if you have need of this service.

Large button keyboards are available for low-visions persons. Please ask staff about availability.

Height Adjustable Desks

The Mebane and May Memorial Libraries have study rooms with height adjustable tables.

ADA Compliant Spaces

We pride ourselves on constantly working to make our physical spaces ADA compliant. Main thoroughfares and aisles should all be ADA compliant. May Memorial and Graham have automatic doors on our entrances and Mebane has handicap door access buttons.
